Dr. Paul Meli, medical director of the
Shoulder and Knee Center of South Florida and Chief of the Department
of Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital, is one of South Florida's most
respected orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Meli established his practice
in Fort Lauderdale in 1990. Since that time has become nationally
known for orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. His patients come
from down the street and around the world. They include bank presidents,
yacht captains, Professional and Olympic athletes, physicians, attorneys
and South Florida's 'weekend athletes.'
Although his practice includes all areas of orthopedic
medicine, Dr. Meli specializes in the treatment and surgery of shoulders
and knees. Dr. Meli is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic
Surgery, a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners,
a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (FAAOS) and
a Fellow of the American College of Surgery (FACS).
A native of Long Island, N. Y., Paul Meli moved
to Fort Lauderdale with his family at the age of 17. He graduated
from Florida State University, received a graduate degree from the
University of Florida and received his M. D. degree from the University
of Miami in 1984. Dr. Meli interned at New York University's Cabrini/St.
Vincent Hospital and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery
at Catholic Medical Center in Queens, N.Y. and Northwest Metropolitan
Detroit Hospitals.
In addition to serving as Chief of Surgery at Holy
Cross Hospital, where he has been affiliated since 1990, Dr
Meli also is affiliated with North
Ridge Medical Center and Imperial
Point Medical Center. At Holy Cross hospital, he has served
as vice chief of the department of surgery, chairman of the surgical
peer review committee and is president-elect of the medical staff
for 2001-2003.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic
Surgeons, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association,
Eastern and Western Orthopedic Association, The American College
of Surgeons, The Florida Medical Association and The Broward County
Medical Association.
Dr. Meli is active in civic and charitable organizations,
including the American Heart Association, Red Cross, Kids in Distress,
HANDY Helping Abused Neglected Dependent Youth), The Museum of Discovery
and Science, The Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale; Florida Philharmonic
and the Broward County Humane Society.
